‘You may be familiar with JLA PSPs which generate a list of the ‘Top 10’ research priorities for a specific condition (https://www.jla.nihr.ac.uk/about-the-james-lind-alliance/about-psps.htm). Our PSP focussing on faecal incontinence is being led by a group of 16 patients with lived experience, and healthcare professionals involved in faecal incontinence care. We launched in September last year and since then have held our first ‘evidence gathering’ survey which received a fantastic response with over 1200 patients, carers, and healthcare professionals engaging to submit their unanswered question(s) about faecal incontinence. These have since been analysed and grouped together to form 54 ‘summary questions’ which could be answered by research.
Earlier this month we launched the follow-up questionnaire which allows respondents to select their top 10 questions from the list of 54. The results of this second follow-up survey will then be used in a face-to-face priority setting day in October to decide on the ‘Top 10’ list of research questions about faecal incontinence. It is hoped in doing so we can drive forward high-quality research into faecal incontinence to answer the most important questions for the benefit of patients and their carers.
Please would you spare 20 minutes of your time to review and prioritise these questions which will have a major impact on the direction of research for those with faecal incontinence in the future.
